Live your best life in New Zealand

You’ve worked hard to become a dentist, and now it’s time to take the next step. New Zealand offers rewarding opportunities, a focus on quality care, and the chance to do your best work while enjoying a lifestyle like no other. From recognising your qualifications to joining The Dentists, we’ll make your move smooth and your future bright.

Step one: Ensure your qualifications are recognised

Starting your dental career in New Zealand is a simple, two-step process. First, you’ll need to ensure your qualifications are recognised by the Dental Council of New Zealand (DCNZ).

The good news? Degrees from these programmes are already accepted:

  • Australia: ADC-accredited programmes.
  • United Kingdom: GDC-accredited programmes.
  • Ireland: Dental Council of Ireland degrees (from 2022).
  • USA and Canada: CODA or CDAC-accredited programmes, or equivalency exam pass.
  • Other Commonwealth Countries: Certain historical qualifications may also apply.

If your degree isn’t listed, you may still qualify by passing the NZ Dentist Registration Examination (NZDREX).

Once your qualifications are sorted, you’re ready to take the next big step: securing your registration and work visa.

Find out more about recognised qualifications on the DCNZ website.

Step one: Ensure your qualifications are recognised

Step two: Register and secure your visa

With your qualifications sorted, it’s time to finalise your move. First, you’ll need to register with the DCNZ. Then, apply for a visa to make your dream of living and working in New Zealand a reality.

There are two main visa options:

  • Accredited Employer Work Visa: For those with a job offer from an accredited employer.
  • Green List Pathway: As a Tier 1 occupation, dentists can apply for the Straight to Residence Visa if eligible.

Once your paperwork is complete, you’re ready to start your new career in a stunning part of the world. You’ve worked hard to get here, and we’re excited to welcome you!
